So you’ve accomplished your primary goal, your leading the race, but it isn’t as easy as it looks. Leading a race is one of the hardest things to maintain as it requires the highest amount of concentration. When your following an opponent there are references for braking and acceleration, when leading it’s all down to you. If you falter once it could cost you the race.
When you’re in the lead its paramount you maintain focus and concentration, don’t worry about how close your opponents are or how likely they are to overtake, this will only hinder your success and increase mistakes. Try to always be one step ahead, think about braking points on approach and the exit once you’ve hit the apex.
Be one step ahead
If you always look ahead and plan, this will minimise mistakes. If you’re karting competitively you could ask a mechanic or spectator to signal the gap between yourself and your opponent, this will allow you to focus on what’s in front and only defend when the times right. Again this helps avoid mistakes and allows you to maintain focus and WIN!
