Karting is a fun activity for all ages, let’s be honest who doesn’t have a competitive side? Karting gives you a sense of thrill and the adrenaline rush is imminent, what’s not to love. It’s the ideal activity whether it’s for a special occasion, a team building exercise, competing in a championship or simply just popping down and having a few practice laps.
Regardless you’ll want to be armed with the necessary hints and tips to ensure you’re on that podium!
So once you’ve slipped on your karting overalls and put on that helmet, remember to bare TopGear karting’s tips in mind.
Yes I know it sounds pretty basic, but if you nail your seating position you’ll be accelerating from the pack in no time. Ideally you want to be seated so your resting your back against the seat and the steering wheel is at a relaxed arms length. You want to remain relaxed, don’t hunch forward this will reduce your speed.
Try to place your hands symmetrically on the steering wheel, your hands want to take a firm yet relaxed grip. Gripping symmetrically will prevent you having to adjust your grip when moving in and out of turns which in turn will assist with maintaining your speed.
You will want to look ahead, this will enable you to anticipate and plan potential manoeuvres. Being observant will allow you to plan the best positions when overtaking etc. whilst maintaining momentum, remember momentum equals speed.
Effective turns in the kart are gradual and smooth, don’t constantly dab the breaks, again plan ahead. If you choose the right line you will maintain traction and pace.
STRAIGHT LINES + SMOOTH = FAST
You want to try and maintain straight lines, therefore its maximum speed and distance. I know its tempting to make drastic moves and swerve towards slower drivers but you need to plan, don’t divert from your straight line. The smoother the drive the faster you will be.
